Women and Transport Africa Conference 2026

The WTA Conference empowered our organization by providing a space to connect with transport professionals. Together, we identified concrete actions to improve the road network we oversee. The primary takeaway was that while current policies are adequate, immediate implementation is needed. This includes constructing more footbridges, ensuring continuous walkways, and enhancing pedestrian safety.

The WTA Conference deepened our understanding of critical public transport safety issues, allowing us to immediately apply these insights to our current development projects. This knowledge is instrumental in our efforts to build safer, more inclusive transport infrastructure for the communities we serve.

The Conference has really helped me. I saw women who were drivers in the big city and had their own fleet, and I was encouraged. I drive around the city very well. Flone, thank you for the platform and opportunity to realize my potential.

As a driver, the conference trainings have given me confidence because I know my rights as a woman on the road.

WIT conference is a great platform, especially for women social entrepreneurs working toward solving urban challenges. Through these networks, you can learn from other organizations working on similar projects and get advice on leapfrog some challenges. You also receive positive criticism, encouragement, and support to help grow and scale your organization.

WTA offered my start-up (Wow Mom Ltd) an international platform to showcase work. We were able to present our feasibility study on “Implication of lack of baby changing facilities to access of space by children and caregiver” to a wider audience and that was key in applying subsequent grants for our project implementation. We secured funding via Duke-UNICEF accelerator program that will not only enable us to install baby changing facilities in public toilets in Nairobi but scale our organization and impact

After attending the 2018 Women and Transport Africa conference, I was inspired to take action towards advancing social justice in public transportation. After the Conference, I convened the Socially Just Public Transport Working Group with the support of FES-Kenya, which brings together diverse stakeholders to address critical issues of equity and accessibility within our transportation systems.
